Two ceramic self-watering spikes for potted plants. Each spike has a ceramic tip that goes into the soil, a plastic top with a green cap, and a thin tube that runs to a glass or jar of water set beside the pot. Once the spike is filled and capped, water is drawn from the glass through the tube to the ceramic tip, which lets it seep into the soil. Each spike is about 4.3 in long and 1.2 in across (11 × 3 cm).

What it does

  • Two spikes in the pack, each with its own green cap and tube.
  • The ceramic tip sits in the soil and lets water pass into it.
  • The tube runs from the spike to a glass or jar of water beside the pot.
  • No batteries, pump or cord.
  • Each spike about 4.3 in long and 1.2 in across (11 × 3 cm).

Product at a glance

Material Ceramic (pottery) spike with PP plastic parts
Size Each spike about 4.3 in long and 1.2 in across (11 × 3 cm); package size about 7.9 × 7.9 × 0.8 in (20 × 20 × 2 cm)
Weight About 3.2 oz (90 g) for the pack of two
Package 2 ceramic watering spikes, each with a green cap and a tube; a water glass is not included

Use & care

Soak the ceramic spike in water for a few minutes before first use. Hold the spike and its tube under water in a bowl, fill the spike, and press the green cap on while it is still under water so no air is trapped. Push the spike into moist soil, set a glass or jar of water beside the pot, and drop the free end of the tube into it so the small white end piece rests at the bottom. Start with the glass standing on the same surface as the pot, as pictured, and check the soil and the water level during the first few days. If the flow stops, take the spike out and fill it again under water. Rinse the ceramic tip now and then to clear soil and mineral deposits.
