Cut a soap loaf into bars on a bamboo tray
A bamboo tray with a hinged metal arm and one thin cutting wire, for cutting a soap loaf into bars. Lay the loaf in the channel, slide it to the number you want on the engraved scale, then swing the arm so the wire passes through the soap. The size is about 10.2 × 5.9 × 1.6 in (260 × 150 × 40 mm). Each order is one tray with its arm and wire.
The scale
Read the bar thickness on the tray
The engraved scale sits at the cutting end of the tray, numbered 1 to 5 with a line at every half step, from about 0.5 to 5 cm (about 0.2–2 in). Slide the loaf until its end reaches the number you want.
The arm
A hinged arm that swings out of the way
The metal arm is hinged at the side of the tray and carries one thin wire, tightened with a knob. Swing the arm out to set the loaf in place, then swing it back so the wire passes through the soap.
In the channel
A soap loaf lying in the tray
The U-shaped channel holds the loaf while you cut, and a cut slice rests on the scale end.

Check on arrival
Check on arrival
Look at the tray, the arm and the wire when your order arrives: the bamboo should be free of cracks, the arm should swing on its hinge and the wire should be fitted to the arm. If anything is missing or damaged, contact us through the contact page. The cutting wire is thin and under tension: keep your fingers away from the wire while you cut and when you tighten or replace it. Freshly made soap can still be caustic, so wear gloves when you cut new loaves.
The wire
The wire
Tighten the wire with the knob until it is taut and stop there, because a thin wire can snap if it is forced.
Reading the scale
Reading the scale
The scale is a guide for your eye with no stop or lock. Mark or measure the loaf and check the first bar before you cut the rest.
Cleaning and storage
Cleaning and storage
Brush soap crumbs off with a dry cloth, wipe the tray with a damp cloth if needed and let the bamboo dry fully. Do not soak it. Store the tray flat and dry.
