Plan the layout on the wall before drilling: start low, keep the step between pieces short enough for your cat, and put the scratching board where your cat already scratches. Fix every bracket into a stud or into solid masonry, then press down on each piece before your cat uses it. Vacuum or brush the plush covering, wipe the brackets with a dry cloth, and check the screws now and then.
