This weed barrier fabric is a black woven ground cover 3 ft wide and 50 ft long in a 5 oz weight, with green guide lines woven along the roll to keep rows and edges straight. Lay it under mulch, gravel or a raised bed, cut planting holes where you need them, and pin it down with landscape staples. The roll weighs about 5.1 lb and cuts with ordinary scissors.

What it does

  • Covers the soil to block light and hold back weeds under mulch, gravel, bark or pavers.
  • Woven rather than a solid sheet, so rain and irrigation pass through to the roots.
  • Green guide lines run the length of the roll to help line up plant rows and overlap the next strip evenly.
  • Cuts with scissors or a utility knife; cut an X for each plant and fold the flaps under.
  • One 3 ft × 50 ft roll covers about 150 sq ft (14 sq m) before overlaps.

Material Black woven polyethylene fabric in a 5 oz per square yard weight (about 170 g per sq m)
Size About 36 in × 600 in, that is 3 ft × 50 ft (0.9 × 15.2 m); packed roll about 37.4 in long and 3.5 in across (95 × 9 × 9 cm)
Weight About 5.1 lb (2.3 kg) per roll

Use & care

Clear the bed of weeds and rake it level before you unroll the fabric. Lay it with the guide lines running along the row, overlap neighboring strips by 4 to 6 in, and pin the edges every 3 to 4 ft with landscape staples. Cut an X where each plant goes and tuck the flaps under. Cover the fabric with 2 to 3 in of mulch, bark or gravel to shade it from the sun and hold it down; do not leave it bare for long stretches. Keep string trimmers and sharp tools off the surface, and check the pins after winter.

Your questions, answered

Does water get through it?

Yes. It is a woven fabric rather than a solid sheet, so rain and drip irrigation reach the soil beneath.

How much does one roll cover?

3 ft by 50 ft, about 150 sq ft (14 sq m), before overlaps. Two rolls side by side with a 6 in overlap cover a bed about 5.5 ft wide.

Are pins included?

No. Landscape staples are not included. Plan on one every 3 to 4 ft along each edge and at every overlap and planting hole.

Can I use it under a gravel path or a raised bed?

Yes. Lay it flat, overlap the seams and top it with gravel, mulch or soil.

Ships within the United States from a U.S. warehouse; typical delivery 2–5 business days.

Weed barrier fabric, 3 × 50 ft: a woven 5 oz ground cover with guide lines for straight rows

Weeding a mulched bed or a gravel path every few weeks gets old. This black woven fabric goes down once under the mulch, gravel or bark: it shades the soil to hold back weeds while the weave lets rain and irrigation through. The roll is 3 ft wide and 50 ft long, weighs about 5.1 lb, cuts with scissors and has green guide lines woven in so each strip lines up with the next. Pins are not included.

    Walkways, beds and greenhouse floors

Run it down a greenhouse aisle, along a vegetable row or under a gravel path. The guide lines run the length of the roll, so the edge of one strip lines up with the next and planting holes stay in a straight row.

      • What is included

One roll. Landscape staples, pins and edging are not included.

        Care and use

Keep 2 to 3 in of mulch, bark or gravel over the fabric to shade it from the sun and weigh it down.

Weeds find gaps. Overlap strips by 4 to 6 in and pin along the overlap, not just the outer edge.

Keep string trimmers, forks and sharp tools off the surface, and lift the fabric to dig rather than cutting through it.

Frost and heavy rain can lift pins. Walk the bed in spring and push loose staples back in.
